It is very rare and uncommon to suffer from an eyelid infection, but when it appears is really an issue, even though people may tell you that you are exaggerating. There are many types of different eye’s infections, but the most common ones are due to our daily routines. These are commonly known as a stye, chalazion, and meibomian gland. The latter is the most common one that appears in most people and it can be easily mistaken by a stye and a chalazion. The meibomian glands are located on the eyelids and these can get infected when are blocked by other substances such as oil, old skin, perspiration and makeup left overnight. In order to avoid this eyelid infection, here are some tips that you might take during your daily routines. These tips will also aid you on how to treat an infected meibomian gland that is already inflamed.

1. When you put makeup on, do take it off at night! I know this really sounds like a repetitive statement and that everyone is already tired at night, but it will help you prevent future eyelid infections.

2. When you remove your makeup with your favorite makeup remover, use a clinical prove (prescribe solution) to clean your eyelids from different bacterias and dust accumulated during the day.

3. Don’t use makeup such as mascara and liquid eyeliners that are 3 months old, you should be throwing those away!

4. Keep washing those makeup brushes! You have to wash your brushes every week at least. Ideally, a brush has to be clean every time it is used. This can easily be done with makeup remover wipes 😉

5. If you already are suffering from an eyelid infection, do not worry it will go away, but it can stick for a little while.

6. DO NOT try to squeeze the little white bumps it may have!!!. These white bumps look like a pimple.

7. If it really hurts you, and your eye is tearing all the time, you may want to go to the eye doctor. This is because at the beginning you may not have an infection, but if left untreated it can develop one.

8. To help you release some discomfort while waiting for your eye doctor’s appointment, you may want to use a washcloth with warm water (CAUTION! DO NOT USE HOT WATER) and then apply the washcloth on your eyelid. YOUR EYE MUST BE CLOSED! You can repeat this process 2 or 3 times per day.

9. DO NOT wear makeup if you already have an eye infection, it will only make it worse!!!

I hope these tips help you feel a little bit safer to prevent eyelid infections.
